SEMIOTIKA FEMINISME DALAM FILM PENDEK PAMIT RONDA KARYA ERLINA RAKHMAWATI
Abstract
This article aims to examine the representation of feminism and shifting gender roles in the film Pamit Ronda through Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. This film shows the condition when women replace men's roles in maintaining village security, as well as dealing with theft incidents that occur in the neighborhood. This situation shows the imbalance between men's symbolic power in the public space and the social practices that are actually carried out by women. This study uses a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method, and uses data collection techniques in the form of observation and documentation of scenes and dialogues in the film. Data analysis is carried out using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach through three stages of meaning, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. Based on the classification of feminism according to Rosemarie Tong, this study focuses on two main streams, namely liberal feminism and radical feminism. The results of the study show that liberal feminism is represented trough women's participation in the public space of night patrol activities, which appears in scene 1, scene 2, scene 3, scene 4 scene 2, and scene 7 at the denotative, connotative, and myth levels as a form of demand for equal access and social roles. Meanwhile, radical feminism is seen in scene 4 scene 1, scene 4 scene 3, scene 11, scene 15, and scene 16 which show resistance against patriarchal structures, especially in decision-making, criticism of policies, and independent conflict resolution.
