Abstract

Since 1980 AD Klepu Village has been known as a village of harmony, having a variety of religions including Islam, Catholicism and Protestantism. These two beliefs are juxtaposed through the thickness of Javanese customs. In Klepu, good relations are established because of the high tolerance attitude, which is an important aspect of religious moderation. This study aims to (1) find out the pattern of religious moderation in Klepu Village (2) the inhibiting factors of religious moderation in Klepu Village, (3) what are the challenges of religious moderation in Klepu Village. This research is a type of field research with a qualitative approach conducted in Klepu Village, Sooko, Ponorogo in order to explore relevant data. Data collection by way of observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the research carried out include (1) The pattern of social interaction of the people of Klepu Village shows an associative relationship, such as mutual cooperation and assimilation of values. Religious background which they believe is not a barrier in carrying out social activities (2) the inhibiting factors of religious moderation in Klepu Village come from internal and external factors. Internal factors include the community's religious insights and fanaticism, while external factors include inadequate human resources, the government does not play an active role in providing guidance regarding religious moderation and the influence of social media (3) the challenge of religious moderation begins with claims of religious truth, attitudes showing only truth owned by oneself and consider other people's beliefs to be untrue. Other factors include an excessive attitude towards religion, a person is more inclined to his religion and thinks that what is believed to be more correct and denies the teachings of other religions, this is accompanied by a fanatical attitude which will result in the destruction of religious moderation.
