Abstract

Wayang Beber Tawang Alun is an intangible cultural heritage typical of Pacitan, East Java, consisting of six scrolls with a total of 23 stories. Based on the candrasengkala “Gawe Srabi Jinamah Wong,” this artifact is estimated to have originated from 1614 Saka (1692 AD). Increasing age and physical vulnerability make the original artifact no longer suitable for use in performances. Therefore, this study aims to preserve and develop Wayang Beber through duplication activities, so that it can still be used as an educational and performance medium without damaging the original artifact. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with the objects of study including the process of making daluang paper, sungging techniques, and dissemination of works. The results of the duplication of six replica scrolls show the effectiveness of a collaborative preservation strategy between local and national artists. Replicas not only maintain visual aspects and narrative values, but also become educational media that strengthen cultural identity and the regeneration of traditional art actors in a sustainable manner
